Safety Devices Unveils Competition
Ready Roll Cage for Porsche 356 Coupe
(Advertising Feature)

Safety Devices, a leading provider of motorsport safety equipment for race and rally cars, has produced a six-point, bolt-in roll cage for Porsche's iconic 356 Coupe. The cage, which is homologated for use in international motorsport, dramatically enhances the structural integrity of the 356, aiding handling as well as significantly improving the vehicle's passive safety.

Each installation takes approximately six to eight hours to complete - largely governed by the time required to remove seats and trim. The work can be undertaken at Safety Devices' Cambridgeshire (UK) factory, or at a number of approved installation centres. The price for each new 356 cage is £507.62 (sterling, incl. VAT). Safety Devices also offers a number of harnesses and fire extinguisher systems for the 356.

Quality manufacture

In compliance with FIA and MSA regulations, installation of the new 356 Coupe cage first requires the welding of six mounting plates inside the car. The cage itself is made from Cold Drawn Seamless tubing (CDS), and is jig-welded by skilled operatives working to the guidelines of the welding industry's internationally recognised body, TWI (The Welding Institute).

Accurate tube lengths are cut using Safety Devices' computer controlled, in-house designed plasma-cutting machine, which enables tube ends to be 'profiled' to ensure a secure fit. Forming is carried out on a CNC bending machine. Before being handed to the customer, each of the new cages will undergo a phosphating and polyester powdercoating process.

The 356 Coupe roll cage is also available with high-impact padding to further protect occupants in the event of a crash. Safety Devices has recently become the first company to achieve FIA homologation for the latest specification roll cage padding, now mandatory for World Championship motorsport.
